Brandon Barnes and Scott Orndoff both came to the Lions as undrafted free agents in 2017, and now both will be teammates once on the Los Angeles Wildcats. A fellow former Tiger, defensive end Jacquies Smith, went to the Seattle Dragons.

As it prepares for its February 2020 kickoff, the XFL is largely targeting players who have been released from the National Football League or are otherwise unsigned.

After teaching himself how to play quarterback by watching YouTube videos, Perez walked on at Southwestern College in 2012 and worked his way up to a starting spot the following season.

The newly reformed XFL is holding its inaugural draft Tuesday and Wednesday, in which all eight teams will fill their rosters through a 71-round process. He spent time on practice squads for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets during each of the last two years and was signed to a reserve/future deal by the Jets last December, but was cut by the team before the 2019 season.

Teams will draft 71 players, and will whittle that down to a 52-man roster by the time the season begins on February 8, 2020 - the weekend after the Super Bowl.

Rashard Davis was selected by the DC Defenders on Tuesday during Phase 1 of the selection process. Most recently, Williams played for the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns. Pumphrey, 24, was taken with the first pick in the seventh round in the skill position players draft (the XFL is breaking it up by positions; they included QB, RB, WR and TE). Former Southeastern Conference stars Aaron Murray (Georgia) and Jordan Ta'amu (Mississippi) were assigned to the Tampa Bay Vipers and St. Louis Battlehawks, respectively.
