Dutch military police probing 'suspicious situation' on board plane at Schiphol airport

Schiphol airport: Dutch military police investigating 'suspicious situation' on plane

Dutch police deployed to plane at Schiphol airport

It was reported that a heavily armed police unit had gone to the airport, while emergency services had massed.

The incident was described as a GRIP-3 situation, Dutch officials said, meaning an incident or serious event with major consequences to a local population.

Police did not offer any more details about the situation.

The incident is at Schiphol airport.

Sources told RTL Nieuws that the situation involves a departing Air Europe flight.

The Dutch Royal Military Police and other emergency services flocked to the scene, as rumors of a possible hostage situation spread. The investigation on the plane continues, they said. According to unconfirmed reports a plane scheduled to fly from Amsterdam to Madrid was "hijacked by three men with knives" on Wednesday evening.

Two trauma have responded to the airport, NU.nl reported. "We keep you posted", the airport said on social media.

The airport is still operating but all inbound and outbound flights are delayed and some have been postponed indefinitely.

Schipol Airport in Amsterdam is one of the world's largest. According to recent updates, things at Schiphol are slowly returning to normal.

Passengers and crew are safely off board.

The speed and effectiveness of the Marechaussee's response has been nothing short of commendable.
