The spit shows ET returning to Earth and reconnecting with Elliott, who now has a wife and two children bearing a striking resemblance to a young Thomas and Drew Barrymore, who played Elliott's sister, Gertie. Also, E.T. still seems to have a fondness for Reese's Pieces because he devours a few cupcakes with some sprinkled on top of the icing.
This week, it's the turn of the folks over at Sky, whose short film will have even the most cold-hearted Scrooge reaching for the tissues as it sees the return of one of the most iconic characters of cinema, E.T. His theme for E.T. could make a commercial for a cable television packages heartwarming! "It's really a win-win", said Thomas in a statement. Just say "E.T. phone home" into your remote!
"Looking at the storyboards, I could see exactly why Steven was really behind it", Thomas said, "because the integrity of the story isn't lost in this retelling". "The classic friendship between E.T. and Elliott resonates around the world, and their story became a very meaningful way to bring our company's consumer technology to life".
Well, nearly 37 years since original release, Sky has continued this beloved story of friendship by reuniting the E.T. with Elliott. Lance Acord directed the E.T. short.
An edited 30-second spot also will run during ad breaks of NBC's prime-time NFL telecast Thursday, along with football games on CBS and Fox, and then on other channels during the holiday season. If not, remember your old pal E.T.is always with you - in here.
Jeff Goodby, co-chairman, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (GS&P): "People don't care about technology inherently".
