The new year is off to a melancholy start for Nick Gordon's family, who is mourning the loss of the 30-year-old after a suspected drug overdose.
Investigators with the medical examiner's office were not able to determine exactly how Bobbi Kristina Brown died.
Brown's passing came three years after Houston was found submerged and unresponsive in a bathtub on February 11, 2012, and died soon after.
Jack Walker, Nick's brother, said in a statement: "We are devastated by the loss of my lovely brother".
Rest In Peace Nick Gordon, prayers go out to his family and friends.
In an email to The Times, attorney Joe Habachy of Atlanta said he could not speak to the specific circumstances of Gordon's death, but he wrote that "it's been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had huge potential".
Her death came three years after her mother died in disturbingly similar circumstances.
It really is sad that Nick Gordon only barely outlived his ex-fiancé after four and a half years of dealing with her death and the controversy that it yielded.

Habachy said despite Gordon's turbulent last few years, he was trying to stay away from drugs. Reports according to Sky News stated that authorities commented that due to years of drug abuse combined with heart disease played a critical role in her death. Bobbi died six months later.
It appears Gordon was hospitalized for a short time before his death, TMZ reported. Nick Gordon was ordered to pay $36 million to Bobbi's family.
Following Houston's death, Gordon and Bobbi Kristina revealed they were in a relationship.
