As one of the few cosmic Marvel superheroes, another trip into the stars would be very welcome in Captain Marvel 2, especially when Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is still years away. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck wrote and directed it alongside co-writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet. We don't know who will step in to direct the project, but Marvel is reportedly looking for female filmmakers to head up the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has hired their WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell to write the present-day set Captain Marvel 2 and Marvel is now searching for a director as Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck might be doing a Disney+ series. Disney has previously reserved three 2022 dates - February 18, July 29, and October 7 - for as-yet-unnamed Marvel Studios film. The movie now has a writer, Megan McDonnell, who worked on the first season of upcoming Disney Plus show WandaVision.
Details include that Captain Marvel 2 will be set in the present day, while the first movie was set back in the '90s. Larson's no-nonsense hero also packed a wallop at the box office, with $1.13 billion in global box office.

Well, there are plans in place and we will be seeing more of Brie Larson's Carol Danvers as the studio has officially confirmed (via The Hollywood Reporter) that a sequel is in development with a planned release date in 2022. The Hollyood trade goes on to say that Marvel studios is aiming to find a female director for this second film.
Marvel's CCO Kevin Feige first mentioned a Captain Marvel sequel at San Diego Comic Con 2019.
