An 24-year-old Albuquerque, New Mexico man is reeling after a police officer kneed him in the groin with enough force to shatter his testicle during a traffic stop.
Jeremy Martin, a law student at the University of New Mexico ended up losing his testicle as a result, after an unsuccessful emergency surgery attempt.
According to police, Martin was driving through the UNM campus with friends when he drove through a stop sign, reports KOB 4. He was then pulled over and given a field sobriety test after admitting he had been drinking.
Officer Padilla, from the Albuquerque Police Department instructed Martin to sit on the curb. He claimed that Martin resisted.
Sam Bregman, Martin’s lawyer however, says that Martin merely took a single step in the officers direction. It was at this point when Padilla kneed him in the groin with unyielding force.
“This officer felt the necessity to knee him so directly and with so much blunt force that it shattered his testicle,” he said in a statement.
Martin was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.
In his mugshot, Martin has cuts all over his face. The police report mentions the cuts, but does not explain how he received them. The report makes no mention of the groin injury.
There are also other inaccuracies in the report. It claims that Martin ran a stop sign while driving north on Wellseley Place but the stop sign there is for southbound traffic only.
Martin is filing a lawsuit, according to Bregman.
Police State Daily reached out to a local physician and asked how much force it would take to shatter a testicle.
Apparently testicles are made out of exceptionally tough issues but for the average male, it takes anywhere from around 150 to 200 pounds of pressure to pop one.
